Too bad about that B supplement!! I like MegaFood B Complex or Oregon's Wild Harvest Stress Guard. Take a look at my prenatal post for more suggestions. I am the parent to two children with T21, one is 3 years old and we lost one prenatally in June, at 13w. I am attempting to try to conceive again, and found out yesterday I have a single copy C677T. My OB and RE seem unmoved about this, stating it is unconnected and not a big problem. Isn't it, though? Is there any more recent research I can show them? I am panicked that my RE just tried to prescribe me Folgard. I said no thank you. <br />I have put myself on a methylated folate vitamin since mid June. However I just realized this morning that my other B supplement is full of folic acid. I'm crushed that I've been taking it dutifully every day. How can I know if my folate stores are high enough to give us the best chance at having a chromosomally typically child, should we be lucky enough to get pregnant again?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15475347982022488724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1989545445919628676.post-28784685113169331982016-04-15T22:11:44.739-04:002016-04-15T22:11:44.739-04:00Avoid synthetic folic acid for one! It's also ...Avoid synthetic folic acid for one! It's also in breads and cereals-- check the labels. Take naturally derived folate. Check out my post on prenatal supplementation for recommendations. I took all of those before I got pregnant with my second child. In the meantime, I would avoid folic acid since it sits in the spot that the proper folate needs to be in... I'd get a supplement that has folinic acid (calcium folinate) and or l-5methylfolate in it. You can check the store above or you can check the prenatal supplementation post for supplement recommendations. I found out during genetic testing that I am a carrier but I have a balanced translocation. My second 21st chromosome has been translocated on my 14th just like my son's 3rd 21st chromosome is. I just bought prenatal vitamins and they have folic acid 800mcg per capsule. Should I be taking vitamins with folic acid or whould that make my pregnancy high risk? The genetic councillor didn't specify anything regarding folic acid or folate when we discussed future pregnancies. ThanksAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
